Sara overcomes social anxiety as a TAY client

Sara has been a TAY (transitional age youth) client since 2009.  Sara has made good progress over the past year. She is now attending school and enjoys taking classes. She has her own apartment with her boyfriend and seems to be able to handle the responsibility that comes with that. She is more financially stable as she was approved for SSI after trying to obtain it for almost two years. She is working with rep payee services and has been able to follow their rules. Sara used to see her case manager twice a week because she was displaying symptoms of anxiety and depression; that has dropped down to once a week to every two weeks because she is no longer emotional and tearful. Sara also went on a trip to Santa Cruz with her boyfriend’s family; this is the first time she was out of Fresno County.  She was able to walk on the boardwalk and be around lots of people which she has never been able to do because of social anxiety. She participates in TAY activities on a regular basis.   She will be ready to transition to another step-up program soon.
